Mark Carney Cabinet Announcement: Kamal Khaira Becomes Canada’s New Health Minister
In the newly formed cabinet of Prime Minister Mark Carney of Canada, François-Philippe Champagne has been appointed Minister of Finance, replacing Dominique LeBlanc. LeBlanc, who previously held the finance portfolio, is now the Minister of International Trade.
Chrystia Freeland has rejoined the cabinet as Minister of Transport and Internal Trade. Anita Anand has taken on the role of Minister of Innovation, Science, and Industry. Meanwhile, Kamal Khaira, of Punjabi origin, has been promoted to become Canada’s new Minister of Health.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed to the U.S. proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine. However, he emphasized the need to address the root causes of the conflict to achieve long-term peace. Canada has announced its support for the U.S. ceasefire proposal for Ukraine. Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly stated at the conclusion of the G7 meeting in Quebec today that the G7 countries are united in backing the U.S. initiative. Man and woman accused in Edmonton security guard death plead not guilty
The two people accused in the shooting death of a 20-year-old Edmonton security guard have pleaded not guilty and will have a preliminary hearing this summer.
Evan Rain and Judith Saulteaux are both charged with first-degree murder in the death of Harshandeep Singh. Singh died in hospital in December after he was found unresponsive by Edmonton police officers who were responding to a report of a gunshot at a downtown apartment building.

Industry Minister Francois Philippe Champagne says he's telling his department to prioritize investments in projects that primarily use Canadian steel and aluminum — part of Ottawa's reply to the Trump administration's trade war.

A major foreign-policy summit is underway in Quebec today, with the Liberals welcoming foreign ministers from the U.S., Europe and Japan.
