BC Infrastructure Minister Bowinn Ma says a “frightening” security incident took place Friday morning at her constituency office in North Vancouver, prompting the cancellation of all meetings and appointments for the day.

In a statement, Ma said no one was injured and thanked police officers for responding quickly: “We appreciate the concern expressed by community members. For the safety of staff and constituents, all appointments are cancelled today.”

Her statement says that thankfully, nobody was injured, and she appreciates the concern expressed by community members.

“It’s scary because these offices are supposed to be open to the public. You don’t expect this kind of thing in our community,” said one business owner in the area told Connect FM

Ma did not provide details, citing an active police investigation. Connect FM contacted the North Vancouver RCMP for confirmation of the incident, but officials did not provide a response by publication time.

The incident comes amid heightened concerns about the safety of elected officials in Canada, including threats and disruptions at constituency offices across BC in recent years. Political observers say the events underscore challenges in balancing open access to public officials with ensuring security for staff and the public.

Environment Canada has issued "high impact" rainfall warnings for the Fraser and Skagit valleys, with some areas expected to receive up to 80 millimetres of rain, particularly in higher elevations. Officials cautioned that the situation is unpredictable and that
