Police in Nanaimo are appealing for witnesses after a vehicle and several community mailboxes were vandalized overnight earlier this week.
According to the Nanaimo RCMP, officers responded to reports of damage in the 900 block of Old Victoria Road on the morning of February 25. A newer model Tesla that had been parked on the roadway was found with deep scratches across the hood and side panels, along with a shattered windshield.
Investigators also discovered several Canada Post community mailboxes located a short distance away had been torn from their concrete base. Police say it is not yet clear whether the damage to the vehicle and the mailboxes is connected. Canada Post security officials have been notified and are expected to coordinate repairs.
Officers conducted foot patrols in the largely undeveloped area but have not identified any suspects. Investigators are examining all possible motives, including whether the vehicle may have been deliberately targeted.
Police are asking motorists who travelled through the area between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. on February 25 to review dashcam footage and report anything unusual. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Nanaimo RCMP non emergency line at 250 754 2345.
Acts of vandalism affecting personal property and public infrastructure can disrupt mail delivery and raise broader community safety concerns. Police say public assistance will be key as the investigation continues.
