Indian Prime Minister Modi arrives in Kyiv for talks with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived on Friday in Kyiv, where he will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, lawmaker Oleksii Honcharenko said on Telegram.
Officials in India and Ukraine say the visit will focus on boosting economic ties and cooperation in defense, science and technology.
Modi's visit comes a month and a half after he traveled to Moscow for talks with President Vladimir Putin.

The decision to make 8 colleges of Punjab autonomous was stopped recently
The Punjab government has taken a U-turn on its decision to upgrade 8 government colleges as (autonomous) colleges. Under the autonomous status, these colleges were supposed to have the freedom to take decisions on everything from fees to other matters, but the opposition parties had started to surround the Aam Aadmi Party on this issue.
He said that the Aam Aadmi Party came to power on the issue of education and health, which is now changing the status of government colleges and making them expensive for the poor.

Attackers ambush and kill 11 police officers in eastern Pakistan, officials say
Attackers armed with guns and rocket-propelled grenades ambushed a police convoy in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province Thursday, killing at least 11 officers and wounding others, police and officials said.
The attack happened in the Rahim Yar Khan district when the police officers were passing through a deserted area as part of an operation targeting robbers in the region, Punjabi police said in a statement.
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in militants attacks in recent years, but such a high number of police casualties in a single attack is rare.

More shelter beds for people in Victoria street camp cited by police for 'hostility'
Dozens of new shelter beds are opening for people living on the streets in Victoria, including at an encampment where police escorts have been required for emergency responders.
A statement from the Housing Ministry says that up to 72 new beds will be made available for people living on Pandora Avenue and elsewhere.
It says BC Housing is funding up to 40 new spaces at shelters run by Our Place Society as well as 32 at a shelter operated by The Salvation Army.

Ramanjit Singh Romi, the mastermind of Punjab's Nabha jail break, has been arrested from Hong Kong and brought to India with the help of Punjab Police CBI and Interpol.
AIG Gurmeet Singh Chauhan of Punjab Police's Anti-Gangster Task Force said that the Nabha jail break incident took place in November 2016. During that time, 6 prisoners escaped from custody. Among them, two were members of Khalistan Liberation Front and two were gangsters.

NDP won't support back-to-work legislation for rail lockout, Singh says
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh says his party will not support back-to-work legislation or any "interference" in the bargaining process after Canada's two largest railway companies locked out their employees.
Canadian National Railway Co. and Canadian Pacific Kansas City Ltd. locked out 9,300 engineers, conductors and yard workers after the two sides failed to agree on a new contract before the midnight deadline.

A rail work stoppage has upset typical travel plans for nearly 30,000 daily commuters in Ontario and Quebec where several major transit lines have been suspended.
