President Joe Biden wins Missouri Democratic primary

President Joe Biden has won Missouri’s primary, the state Democratic Party announced. Biden’s win was not in doubt; he has alreadybeaten his major competitors. But the primary races are still closely watched by insiders for turnout and signs of protest voters. Saturday’s primary was the Missouri Democratic Party’s first party-run presidential contest since a new law took effect in August 2022. The party says about 20,000 voters participated. Missouri Republicans opted to hold a caucus this year, which former President Donald Trump won. Lawmakers havefailed to reinstatethe state-run pri

The case of deaths due to poisoned liquor: Sukhpal Singh Khaira held the state government responsible

Senior Punjab Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira has held the state government responsible for nearly two dozen deaths due to consumption of poisoned liquor in Sangrur. Khaira said that these deaths in the native district of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann have made it clear that there is a parallel liquor mafia running in Punjab. He said that when there were deaths due to alcohol in Amritsar, at that time Bhagwant Mann, being a Member of Parliament, demanded to file a case of murder against the representatives of the government, now he should apply the same thing to himself.

Canada evacuating vulnerable Canadian citizens out of Haiti: Joly

Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly says Canada is airlifting vulnerable Canadians out of Haiti by helicopter to the Dominican Republic as conditions continue to deteriorate. Haiti has been in a profound security crisis since mid-2021, when gangs took control of key infrastructure and started violent turf wars that have led to a collapse of most medical and food systems in the country. Two weeks ago, unelected Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry agreed to resign once a transitional council is formed to oversee an international military intervention led by Kenya. Earlier this month, Canada ai

Bell CEO summoned to committee over job cuts after not finding time to appear

Members of Parliament have summoned the head of Bell Canada to testify next month about the company's decision to cut thousands of jobs across the country. CEO Mirko Bibic was originally invited to appear before the Canadian Heritage committee on Feb. 29 and then March 19, but MPs say he has so far been unable to attend. Last week, in a closed-door meeting, the committee agreed to summon Bibic to appear on April 11 to answer questions and discuss the cuts. When a witness declines an invitation to appear, a committee may issue a summons to compel their attendance. Bell Canada Enterprises Inc.,

The alliance of Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP can stop in Punjab

In Punjab, Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP may stop forming an alliance. The Shiromani Akali Dal's core committee has set conditions for an alliance with the BJP, which it says will not agree to a negotiated solution to the farmers' demands and the release of jailed Singhs, including Bhai Amritpal Singh. There should not be an alliance with BJP for that long. It is to be noted that the core committee of Akali Dal has kept these conditions when it was being said that talks are going on between the two parties regarding the distribution of seats and a decision may come soon.

UN demands cease-fire in Gaza during Muslim holy month of Ramadan, its 1st demand to halt fighting

The United Nations Security Council on Monday demanded a cease-fire in Gaza during the Muslimholy month of Ramadan, its first demand to halt fighting. The United States abstained on the resolution, which also demanded the release of all hostages taken captive during Hamas’ Oct. 7 surprise attack in southern Israel. But the measure does not link that demand to the cease-fire during Ramadan, which ends April 9. The vote comes after Russia and China vetoed a U.S.-sponsored resolution Friday that would have supported “an immediate and sustained cease-fire” in the Israeli-Hamas conflict. The

Pacific storm brings wind warnings and mountain snow across southern B.C.

A Pacific storm system moved into southwestern British Columbia on Wednesday, bringing wind warnings for coastal communities and fresh snowfall forecasts for higher elevations across the province. Environment Canada said in a special weather statement that there is a slight chance of brief sea-level snowfall in parts of Metro Vancouver as the system moves through. Any low-elevation snow is expected to be short-lived. Flurries earlier in the week did not accumulate at Vancouver International Airport, keeping Vancouver on track for what could become its first officially snow-free winter in more
