Rupee hits record low; closes 60 paise down at 77.50 against US dollar
The Indian rupee hit a record low of 77.58 against the US dollar on Monday amid unabated outflow of foreign funds after the Federal Reserve hiked policy interest rates last week.
At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee settled at 77.50 against the US dollar, down 60 paise from its previous close of 76.90 hit on Friday.
Earlier, the rupee opened sharply lower at 77.17 against the dollar and hit a record low of 77.58 in the intra-day.

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has resigned following weeks of protests demanding that he and his brother, the president, step down over the country's worst economic crisis in decades.
Rajapaksa said on Twitter that he submitted his resignation to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Tajinder Bagga's arrest 'as per procedure', says Mohali DSP
Amid the sloganeering outside Delhi's Janakpuri Police Station condemning BJP leader Tajinder Bagga's arrest by the Punjab Police, Mohali DSP KS Sandhu clarified that the BJP leader was apprehended 'as per the procedure'.
"Punjab Police followed the procedure in taking Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga into custody and that the case remains pending in the court..." KS Sandhu, DSP(D), Mohali.

DGCA warns of strict action against airlines wrongly denying boarding to passengers
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday warned all airlines that are denying boarding to passengers with confirmed tickets on a flight will be viewed seriously and strict action will be initiated against the erring airline, including imposing financial penalties as per regulations.

Suspects in the murder of Jimmy Sandhu had been in the army
The Defence Department says both suspects in the murder in Thailand of a man with links to BC gangs had been in the army, but it can't confirm whether they served together. Metro Vancouver Transit Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect who allegedly attacked a 17 year old girl on board a TransLink bus. A Victoria woman is recovering from head and facial injuries after an unprovoked assault in that city and police hope witnesses or surveillance video will help them find the attacker. Government schools in Punjab to run in double shifts
With an increase in the number of students in government schools, the Punjab Education Department has decided to run the government schools in the state in double shifts.
As per the orders released by the education department, the decision has been taken due to the lack of space and infrastructure in schools. Due to the increase in the number of students, many were seeking double shifts in schools following which the orders were released, said the letter issued.
