Hans Raj are originally from Jalandhar district. He started his political journey as a member of Shiromani Akali Dal. He also contested the 2009 Lok Sabha elections from Jalandhar but lost.

After joining the BJP, he won the Lok Sabha elections from Delhi West in 2019. On the other hand, in view of the return of the Dhindsa family to the Akali Dal, BJP leader Fatehjung Singh Bajwa has hoped for an alliance between the Akali-BJP.
