Shots fired at B.C. home of Sikh activist, an associate of slain Nijjar, group says
The spokesman for a group advocating Sikh independence says that a Metro Vancouver home hit by gunfire on Thursday belonged to a member of the movement.
Surrey RCMP say multiple shots were fired at a home in the 2800 block of 154 Street in Surrey at 1:21 a.m. in what is believed to be an isolated incident.
Gurpatwant Singh Pannun with the group Sikhs For Justice says the home belongs to an member of the movement who is an associate of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was killed in a shooting last June that triggered a diplomatic row with India.

Huge boom recorded in Calgary home sales
Calgary’s housing market posted a strong start to 2024, with 1,650 homes sold in January – a 37.7 per cent increase compared with the same month last year, according to the Calgary Real Estate Board (CREB).
The unadjusted residential benchmark price rose to $572,300, up 10 per cent year-over-year. Apartments led the growth, with sales up 54 per cent from January 2023.
Despite more homes hitting the market – new listings climbed 15.4 per cent – supply remains tight. With just 2,150 active listings, Calgary recorded its lowest January inventory since 2006.

Death of another Indian student in America
Another Indian student has died in America, this is the fourth such case in a month.
The latest incident happened in Ohio. The Consulate General of India in New York reported the death of a student named Shreyas Reddy. Police investigation is going on in this matter.
Before this, students named Neil Acharya, Vivek Saini and Akul Dhawan have died in the same month in America. Shreyas Reddy was a student of Lindner School of Business.

Drug trafficking case: Bikram Singh Majithia's relatives were interrogated
Two of the 4 close relatives of Bikram Singh Majithia, summoned by the special investigation team of the police in the case of drug trafficking worth crores of rupees in Punjab, appeared today for questioning.
The SIT headed by DIG Harcharan Bhullar interrogated them in Patiala. Summons were issued to four people close to Majithia for February 2, but only two appeared before the court.
This case was registered against Bikram Majithia during the Channi government, in which he has been interrogated three times.

Liberals delay expansion of assisted dying eligibility until 2027

Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge will visit Punjab on February 11 amidst the ongoing suspense over the alliance between Congress and AAP in Punjab.

The Government of Canada has opened the registration of the National Dental Care Plan for people over 72 years of age
The Government of Canada has opened registration for the National Dental Care Plan for seniors aged 72 years and above from Thursday.
Benefits under this program are due to begin in May, but Canadians with seniors aged 87 years and older have been registered for the program since December. In January, people aged 77 to 86 were invited to apply, now in March, seniors aged 70 to 71 will be invited to apply.

SGPC demands resignation from Bhagwant Mann
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann over the recent firing by the police in Sultanpur Lodhi Gurdwara Sahib.
A special meeting was called by SGPC on Thursday, in which 4 resolutions were passed. The second resolution in this includes filing an FIR under 295A against Bhagwant Mann.
