Allahabad HC rejects plea seeking to open 22 closed doors in Taj Mahal
The Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court on Thursday rejected the plea seeking to open 22 closed rooms in the Taj Mahal to ascertain the presence of the idols of Hindu deities.

Gen Naravane pays obeisance at Golden Temple
Former Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane, who has spent the majority of his more than 42 years of service with the Sikh troops of his battalion, on Wednesday paid obeisance to the Guru Granth Sahib at the Golden Temple in his first visit post-retirement visit.

Punjab CM seeks report from DGP, intelligence officers over Mohali blast
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday sought a report from the Director-General of Police (DGP) and intelligence officers over the last night's explosion in Mohali, stating that strict punishment will be given to the culprits.

Rupee hits record low; closes 60 paise down at 77.50 against US dollar
The Indian rupee hit a record low of 77.58 against the US dollar on Monday amid unabated outflow of foreign funds after the Federal Reserve hiked policy interest rates last week.
At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee settled at 77.50 against the US dollar, down 60 paise from its previous close of 76.90 hit on Friday.
Earlier, the rupee opened sharply lower at 77.17 against the dollar and hit a record low of 77.58 in the intra-day.

Tajinder Bagga's arrest 'as per procedure', says Mohali DSP
Amid the sloganeering outside Delhi's Janakpuri Police Station condemning BJP leader Tajinder Bagga's arrest by the Punjab Police, Mohali DSP KS Sandhu clarified that the BJP leader was apprehended 'as per the procedure'.

DGCA warns of strict action against airlines wrongly denying boarding to passengers
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday warned all airlines that are denying boarding to passengers with confirmed tickets on a flight will be viewed seriously and strict action will be initiated against the erring airline, including imposing financial penalties as per regulations.

Government schools in Punjab to run in double shifts
With an increase in the number of students in government schools, the Punjab Education Department has decided to run the government schools in the state in double shifts.
As per the orders released by the education department, the decision has been taken due to the lack of space and infrastructure in schools. Due to the increase in the number of students, many were seeking double shifts in schools following which the orders were released, said the letter issued.

RBI Hikes Key Lending Rate To 4.40%, First Time In 4 Years
The RBI on Wednesday raised its key lending rate by 40 basis points to 4.40 per cent with immediate effect. The central bank also hiked the cash reserve ratio by 50 basis points. The decision was taken by the monetary policy committee (MPC) in an off-cycle meeting with the central board held May 2-4.
RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said the decision was taken in view of rising inflation, geo-political tensions, high crude oil prices and shortage of commodities globally, which have impacted Indian economy.

India reports 3,205 new COVID cases, 31 more deaths
India reported 3,205 new coronavirus infections in a day, pushing the number of active cases to 19,509 and the overall tally to 4,30,88,118, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday.
The data released at 8 am also showed that 31 fatalities - 29 of them from Kerala alone - were reported in a 24-hour span, taking the cumulative death toll to 5,23,920. One death each was recorded from Maharashtra and Delhi, the data showed.
