A division bench of the Kerala High Court set aside its decision for later on the appeal filed by the producer of The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond. The appeal challenges a single judge’s interim directive that temporarily halted the film’s theatrical release. The movie had been slated to premiere on February 27.
The bench reviewed whether the single judge was justified in suspending the release for 15 days even though the film had already secured certification. During arguments, the judges noted that the objections raised against the certification resembled a public interest litigation and questioned how such petitions were entertained at the preliminary stage.
Earlier in the day, the High Court imposed a two-week stay on the Hindi film’s release. Directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah under the banner of Sunshine Pictures, the film has faced controversy since its promotional content was unveiled. The creators have maintained that the narrative draws from “real events.”
Additionally, the court directed that the film should remain unreleased until detailed hearings conclude, observing that its teaser and trailer could disturb communal harmony. Previously, the certification board had recommended 16 edits to the 131-minute feature before granting it a U/A 16+ rating.
