Haven’t we heard it a gazillion times, ‘It takes two to tango.’ Indeed, it does! But in the recent web series, Sunflower, there are more than two, in fact a couple of them creating a perfect tango (a dance form).

Created by Vikas Bahl of Queen movie fame, Sunflower stands out in terms of characterization.

Every character has been etched out beautifully, leaving no loose ends. So much so, at one point, it is difficult to imagine how the story would have looked, or moved ahead without the XYZ characters.

From well-defined characters comes well-defined and brilliant acting. Topping the charts is actor Sunil Grover playing Sonu Singh. The actor blends quirkiness and innocence effortlessly. He takes subtle digs at society like matter of fact happenings. Even if you try to find a stand up comedian behind Sunil Grover, trust, you can’t find any!

Next up are Ranvir Shorey and Girish Kulkarni, intelligent cops with a subtle sense of humour and their own quirky style. The best part is that their characters struggle with the trials and tribulations of any other common man on earth.

Ashish Vidyarthi, Mukul Chadda, Radha Bhatt... it is not possible to imagine Sunflower without any of these actors.

And now to the part that takes away the colour from the bright and yellow Sunflower - the story, plot and the length. The series starts on a pacy note but soon loses grip, and runs into unnecessary twists and turns. It is stretched way too far, it is lengthy and dragged too.

The USP of any muder mystery is it’s pace and length, and Sunflower loses marks on both these points.

In the end, try smelling this Sunflower, you won’t be disappointed!

Humans in A Loop– A Gentle, Powerful Reflection on Technology and Labour

Jasmine Singh I recently watched Humans In A Loop on Netflix after a close friend from Mumbai highly recommended it — and I’m so glad I did. Directed by Aranya Sahay, the film tells a deeply moving story about Adivasi women in rural India who work as data labelers for AI systems.Aranya brings to life a modern-day reality that is both meditative and unsettling, showing how international tech companies rely on Indigenous labour in places like Jharkhand, while often silencing the very voices that make their systems possible. The film is beautifully crafted and supported by strong performances

Title: Whispers of Darkness: The Haunting Tale of 'Monster of Florence

Jasmine Singh Weather has pretty much changed in Canada; well, let's just say not for good. Darkness seeps in fast, and sometimes this darkness gets to your mind, leaving you unsure of what to do. Here, I was staged by this darkness, and then in dark crevices, I found a limited web series about the first serial killer of Italy. Thus, director Stefano Sollima’s four-part examination of Italy’s notorious “Mostro di Firenze” murders, which left a trail of 16 dead bodies between 1968 and 1985, can only hint strongly at the identity of the perpetrator. The individual in question vanishe
