After winning the election as the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney has made a big statement. He said in a brief interview that he will not go to the US until Trump shows seriousness about Canada's independence and sovereignty. Carney said that Canada deserves equal respect from the US and any agreement between the two countries on trade and security will be made on Canada's terms.
He also said that if he succeeds in building good trade relations with the European Union and the UK, and at the same time an agreement is reached with the US, then this will be the biggest advantage for Canada. Carney said that we can have better partnerships with countries that align with our thinking.
It is worth noting that relations between Canada and the US have become tense in recent months when Trump started calling Canada the 51st province and former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau the governor. At the same time, Canada was also among the first countries to be hit with tariffs by Trump.
