Election Commission hikes poll expenditure limits for candidates

Just ahead of crucial polls in five states, the election expenditure limit for candidates has been hiked to Rs 95 lakh from Rs 70 lakh for Lok Sabha elections and to Rs 40 lakh from Rs 28 lakh for assembly polls, the Election Commission said on Thursday. The decision of the government is based on the recommendation made by the poll panel. For Lok Sabha polls, the revised expenditure limit is now Rs 95 lakh for bigger states and Rs 75 for smaller states. SIT arrives in UP's Lakhimpur Kheri for probe into incident

Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, on Thursday reached the site along with security forces. A total of eight people including three farmers had died in the violence in the Lakhimpur Kheri district on October 3. Goldstream Falls swimming incident: 27-year-old man dies

A 27-year-old man has died after getting into distress while swimming near Goldstream Falls in Goldstream Provincial Park on Monday evening. West Shore RCMP said officers responded to the incident at around 7:35 p.m. on August 17. The man reportedly went underwater while swimming near the waterfall and did not resurface.
