The Punjab and Haryana High Court issued a notice of motion to renowned Punjabi singer Gurdas Maan in response to allegations of offending religious sentiments under Section 295-A of the IPC. Justice Sandeep Moudgil issued the notice in relation to a petition seeking to overturn previous decisions that accepted the police's cancellation report after investigating the matter.
According to the notice, Gurdas Maan is accused of causing offense to a community due to a viral video wherein he inaccurately stated that Laddi Shah was a descendant of Guru Amar Dass. The statement, deemed factually and historically incorrect, sparked controversy.
The Bench of Justice Moudgil was informed that the petitioner's case was supported by a video recording submitted to the police and documented in the trial court's records. However, it was alleged that these crucial pieces of evidence were disregarded with preconceived notions, without proper examination of the allegations and the evidence presented.
