After a lengthy delay of over a year, Diljit Dosanjh's much-anticipated film Punjab ’95 may finally see the light of day in February, according to hints shared by the actor on social media.

Dosanjh teased the release by posting on Facebook: “Punjab 95. In February.” Along with the announcement, he shared images from the film, further fueling excitement. On Instagram, he accompanied another post with the bold caption, “I Challenge the Darkness,” suggesting the powerful themes of the movie.

Punjab ’95 is based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, who exposed the extra-judicial killings of Sikh youth by the Punjab Police during the militant unrest of the 1990s. Despite the film’s strong social relevance, its journey to release has been fraught with challenges, particularly with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which initially demanded 120 cuts to the film. The current status of the movie’s release remains uncertain.

Khalra’s widow, Paramjit Kaur Khalra, has strongly condemned the censor board's request for numerous cuts, asserting that the biopic was made with the family's consent and should be shown in its entirety. Jaswant Singh Khalra’s work brought global attention to the atrocities committed during the period, and his tragic kidnapping and murder in 1995 led to the conviction of six Punjab police officers for their involvement.
