A new tariff of nearly 76 per cent on Canadian canola has come into effect today, threatening to hurt Canadian industry and farmers. Beijing's announcement on Tuesday has already sent the price of the Canadian crop plummeting, wiping out millions of dollars in value.

China announces 75.8 per cent tariffs on Canadian canola
China has announced preliminary tariffs on Canadian canola following an anti-dumping investigation launched last year in response to Canada's tax on Chinese electric vehicles.
Canadian canola exports to China will face a 75.8 per cent duty beginning on Thursday.
The move comes nearly a year after Canada imposed a 100 per cent tariff on Chinese electric vehicles, a move that is to be reviewed by the beginning of October.
Canada supplies China with most of its canola but China currently exports very few electric vehicles to Canada.

20 killed in Gaza truck overturn
Twenty people were killed and dozens injured when four trucks overturned on a crowd in Gaza on Tuesday. It is being told that the crowd ran towards the trucks and climbed on top, due to which the drivers lost control.

5 soldiers shot at Army's Fort Stewart in Georgia, base reports
The Army's Fort Stewart in Georgia says five soldiers were shot and the base was locked down before a shooter was arrested. A spokesperson says parts of Fort Stewart in southeast Georgia were locked down Wednesday after a shooter was reported on the sprawling Army post.
Schools on the base and nearby were locked down. The army said the shooter has been arrested and there's no threat to the community.

Trump increases tariffs on India by 25 percent
US President Donald Trump has imposed an additional 25 percent tariff on India in the matter of oil purchases from Russia, bringing the total tariff on India to 50 percent.
The White House said in a statement on Wednesday that President Trump has signed an executive order in this regard, which will come into effect from August 27.

Four people die in crash of medical transport plane on Navajo Nation in northern Arizona
Four people died Tuesday when a medical transport plane crashed and caught fire on the Navajo Nation in northern Arizona, the tribe said in a statement.
The crash involving the CSI Aviation company out of Albuquerque, New Mexico, occurred near the airport in Chinle, about 200 miles (321 kilometers) northeast of Flagstaff. Those on board were medical personnel who were on their way to a hospital to pickup a patient.
The tribe said the cause of the crash is unknown.
