Trump increases tariffs on India by 25 percent
US President Donald Trump has imposed an additional 25 percent tariff on India in the matter of oil purchases from Russia, bringing the total tariff on India to 50 percent.
The White House said in a statement on Wednesday that President Trump has signed an executive order in this regard, which will come into effect from August 27.
Trump said that India is currently directly or indirectly involved in importing oil from Russia. He also threatened that if any foreign country retaliates against the US in response to the tariff action, he may revise the order.

Carney to meet with cabinet, premiers to discuss latest U.S. tariffs
Prime Minister Mark Carney meets with his cabinet and the premiers today, less than a week after U.S. President Donald Trump hit Canada with a baseline 35 per cent tariff.
This latest trade war escalation applies only to goods not covered by the Canada-United States-Mexico agreement on free trade, better known as CUSMA.
The latest levy took effect on Friday after the two countries failed to hit an Aug. 1 deadline to secure a new trade agreement.
Carney said yesterday at a press conference in B.C. that he has not talked to Trump in recent days but will speak with him "when it makes sense."

Four people die in crash of medical transport plane on Navajo Nation in northern Arizona
Four people died Tuesday when a medical transport plane crashed and caught fire on the Navajo Nation in northern Arizona, the tribe said in a statement.
The crash involving the CSI Aviation company out of Albuquerque, New Mexico, occurred near the airport in Chinle, about 200 miles (321 kilometers) northeast of Flagstaff. Those on board were medical personnel who were on their way to a hospital to pickup a patient.
The tribe said the cause of the crash is unknown.
Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren said in a social media post that he was heartbroken to learn of the crash.

Known for speaking out in favour of Punjab farmers, former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik passed away today at Delhi's Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital after a long illness. He had been suffering from kidney disease for a long time.

Langley RCMP appeal for footage, witnesses after fatal B.C. highway crash
Police in Langley, B.C., say a motorcyclist has died after a crash on Highway 1 on Saturday evening.
Langley RCMP say emergency responders were called to the scene of a serious crash that happened between 264th and 248th Street just before 8:30 p.m.
Police say BC Emergency Health Services and firefighters from the Township of Langley arrived quickly to help, but the motorcyclist died at the scene.
Mounties say collision analysts, BC Highway Patrol and Langley RCMP are now investigating.
They say westbound lanes of the highway were closed for several hours.

Finance and foreign ministers in Mexico to talk trade ahead of Carney's visit
Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand and Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne are in Mexico to meet with President Claudia Sheinbaum to talk economic growth, trade and security.
Their trip is happening ahead of Prime Minister Mark Carney's planned visit to Mexico to meet with Sheinbaum.
The U.S. hit Canada on Friday with a 35 per cent tariff on goods not compliant with the Canada-United States-Mexico agreement on trade, known as CUSMA, while Mexico received a 90-day reprieve from threatened higher levies.

Carney scheduled to visit B.C. Interior Tuesday
Prime Minister Mark Carney is scheduled to be in Kelowna, B.C., for an announcement at a lumber facility on Tuesday after attending the Vancouver Pride parade on the weekend and touring a military facility on Vancouver Island on Monday.
Carney toured the Canadian Forces Maritime Experimental and Test Ranges facility near Nanoose Bay, outside Nanaimo, with officials from the Canadian Navy.
