Two dead in crash of 'homebuilt amphibious' plane near Merritt, B.C.
Police say two people are dead after an amateur-built plane crashed north of the Merritt, B.C. airport, about 270 kilometres northeast of Vancouver.
Merritt RCMP say emergency personnel responded to a report of the crash on Sunday evening and found the pilot and passenger had died.
The Mounties describe the two-seat aircraft as being "homebuilt" and "amphibious."
The say the plane was two kilometres from the airport when it went down east of Highway 5A.
The Transportation Safety Board said it would deploy a team of investigators to look into the crash.

Canada urges Venezuela to detail election results, Freeland cites 'serious concerns'
Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland says Canada has "serious concerns" about Sunday's election results in Venezuela.
Opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez and incumbent Nicolas Maduro have both claimed victory.
Venezuela was the region's most developed economy when Maduro took power in 2013, but he has since overseen an exodus of 7.7 million people fleeing hyperinflation and social unrest.
Maduro warned this month of a possible "bloodbath" if he doesn't win the election by a large margin.

Amritpal Singh's brother and his partner came out of jail
Amritpal Singh's brother Harpreet Singh and his accomplice Lovepreet Singh, who were arrested in a drug case by the Punjab Police, have come out of jail.
Both were lodged in Patiala Jail. The Phillaur court had granted his bail on Thursday.
The police arrested the duo on the evening of July 11 on Phillaur Highway and claimed to have found four grams of ice drug.
The police alleged that the two were preparing to do drugs while sitting in a white Creta car with black mirrors and they also had a lighter and foil. At the same time, Amritpal Singh's family has denied these allegations.

Excise policy case: CBI files charge sheet against Arvind Kejriwal
The investigation of ED and CBI in the money laundering case related to Delhi liquor scam has been completed. The CBI filed a charge sheet against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in Rouse Avenue Court of Delhi on Monday.
ED has already filed its charge sheet in this case. The CBI said that Kejriwal is the real mastermind of the Delhi liquor scam case. Without their arrest, the case could not have been investigated.

Man arrested after reports of stabbing with multiple casualties in northwest England
Police say a man has been arrested after a reported stabbing in northwest England in which several people were hurt.
Merseyside Police said officers were called at about noon on Monday to an address in Southport. It said “there are a number of reported casualties" and called it a “major incident.”

Ottawa and Alberta match Red Cross fire donations as Jasper residents view damage map
As residents of Jasper learn more details about wildfire damage to their evacuated town, the Alberta and federal governments say they'll match donations to the Canadian Red Cross for wildfire relief in the province.
Federal Emergency Preparedness Minister Harjit Sajjan and Alberta Public Safety and Emergency Services Minister Mike Ellis say in a joint news release that the donation-matching initiative means every $1 donated will become $3 to support people most impacted by wildfires in Jasper and across the province.

Slocan region in interior B.C. evacuated due to multiple wildfires
A small town in the B.C. interior has been evacuated due to wildfires raging nearby.
The Regional District of Central Kootenay issued a statement Saturday night issued an evacuation order for the village of Slocan.
The evacuation order also applies to over 400 properties in the areas around the village, a community about 370 kilometres east of Kelowna.
Several fires are burning out of control in the area, including the Komonko Creek and Aylwin Creek wildfire.
Both blazes total over 29 square kilometres.
