Received about half a dozen death threats during eight years in office: Bowinn Ma
Bowinn Ma says she won't be intimidated from continuing her work and serving the community even after an explosive went off outside her constituency office last week.
The provincial infrastructure minister says in her eight years as a member of the legislature, she can recall receiving about half a dozen death threats.
Ma says that actually makes her relatively fortunate, adding she knows other elected officials who have been the subject of many more such threats.
Police are investigating after an explosive blasted open the front door of Ma's North Vancouver constituency office.

25 percent tariff to be imposed on goods coming from Japan and South Korea from August 1: Trump
US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he will impose a 25 percent tariff on goods coming from Japan and South Korea from August 1. Trump has shared information about sending letters regarding the new tariffs to these two countries on Truth Social.
It is noteworthy that Trump had recently said that the tariffs on the countries with which the deadline for negotiations ends without an agreement can remain in effect until they reach a trade agreement with the US.

Damdama Gatka Championship was held in Surrey on this past weekend.
During this, in the Singh division competitions, Antarpreet Singh of Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji Gatka Akhara (Surrey) won the gold medal, while Gurmukh Singh of the same akhara won the silver medal.
Mohit Singh of Ranjit Gatka Akhara of Seattle won the bronze medal. The Most Valuable Player award in the Singh Division went to Karamveer Singh of California Gatka Dal of San Jose.

Alberta man killed after crane collapses at Saskatoon construction site
Police say an Alberta man who was rushed to hospital Saturday after a crane collapse in Saskatoon has died. Officers had been dispatched to a construction site on Webster Street in the city's northeast for an industrial accident.
A crane collapsed at the site and two workers were injured and had to be taken to hospital. In an update, police say a 30-year-old man from Fort Saskatchewan, Alta., northeast of Edmonton, was pronounced dead and that family has been notified.

Police investigate serious-injury pedestrian crash in Richmond
The Richmond RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team are investigating after an 87-year old woman was seriously injured on Saturday afternoon.
On July 5, 2025, at 3:46 p.m., the Richmond RCMP received a report of a pedestrian-involved collision on No. 3 Road at Granville Avenue. A northbound SUV reportedly struck a pedestrian before swerving into a lamp post on the median just north of the intersection. The pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. The driver suffered minor physical injuries related to the crash.

Motorcycle impounded, rider facing charges after high-speed stunting in Parksville
On June 11, 2025, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the rider is alleged to have performed a number of dangerous stunts on a roadway lined with parks, restaurants and crosswalks. The rider is alleged to have driven at speeds over 130 km/h while performing a wheelie in the 50 km/h zone. The vehicle is then reported to have sped up to a top speed of 193 km/h in the 60 zone, more than three times the speed limit on the busy downtown streets.

Bikram Singh Majithia sent to Nabha Jail after remand ends
A Mohali court in Punjab has sent Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia to New Nabha Jail till further hearing on July 19 after the Vigilance remand ends.
The Vigilance had arrested Majithia from his Amritsar residence on June 25 in a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act and had kept him on 11-day remand.
Majithia's lawyer and Shiromani Akali Dal leaders are calling the action motivated by a sense of political vendetta. On the other hand, the Punjab government is calling the arrest a part of the action taken under the anti-drug campaign 'Ward Against Drugs'.

Premiers Danielle Smith and Doug Ford agree to study new energy corridors, more trade
The premiers of Alberta and Ontario have agreed to a feasibility study of new pipelines and rail lines between provinces while increasing interprovincial trade of alcohol and vehicles. The agreements are laid out in two memorandums of understanding that the premiers signed in Calgary.
The potential pipeline and rail line routes to be studied would connect Alberta's oil and gas resources and critical minerals to James Bay in eastern Ontario with a commitment to use Ontario-made steel.

Wildfire burning near Lytton, B.C, grows to 245 hectares
The only blaze of note identified by the BC Wildfire Service continues to grow.
The Izman Creek wildfire near Lytton is now burning 245 hectares, and the danger remains, despite an evacuation order from the Neskonlith Indian Band for about 40 properties in the area being downgraded to an alert last week.
This latest blaze comes just over four years after a wildfire destroyed much of Lytton.
Lytton is located in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District, which has an evacuation alert in effect for some properties under its jurisdictiondue to the Izman Creek wildfire.
