US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Conflict Again

US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky are once again at odds. Trump has accused Zelensky of attempting to back out of a mineral deal, stating that if Zelensky does not sign the agreement, Ukraine will face serious consequences. Trump claimed that Zelensky wants to renegotiate the terms of the deal, which he sees as a move toward backing out of the agreement. He further warned that if Ukraine maintains this stance, it will not be easy for the country to become a member of NATO. According to reports, large deposits of lithium are found in the snow-covered plains o

Trump to unveil latest tariff plans at 'Make America Wealthy Again' event Wednesday

U.S. President Donald Trump is set to lay out his plans to realign global trade through "reciprocal" tariffs Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET in the White House Rose Garden. A news release from the White House calls it a "Make America Wealthy Again Event." Trump has called Wednesday "Liberation Day" and says he will impose "reciprocal" tariffs by increasing U.S. duties to match the tax rates other countries charge on imports. B.C. government approves bill to end its carbon tax on consumers

British Columbians are waking to a future without a consumer carbon tax for the first time in 17 years, after the late-night approval of a bill to end the long-standing policy. The NDP government fast-tracked legislation to kill off the tax on Monday, in time to coincide with today's demise of the federal version of the tax. B.C. became the first jurisdiction in North America to introduce a broad-based carbon tax in 2008. Premier David Eby says it played an important role for many years, but it became a "toxic" issue as a result of campaigns by the B.C. and federal Conservative parties. Eby sa

150kg meth seizures at Vancouver airport, bound for Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand

Border officers have announced the seizure of almost 150 kilograms of methamphetamine bound for export at Vancouver International Airport, with some of the drugs disguised as gifts or masked with vinegar and pepper to hide their smell. The Canada Border Services Agency says in a news release that six separate seizures were made between Jan. 18 and Feb. 19, with the drugs all hidden in passengers' suitcases. It says destinations were Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand, with the biggest single haul of 35.7 kilograms wrapped in gift paper and hidden in two suitcases bound for Hong Kong. The age

Mark Carney Unveils Plan to Build 500,000 New Homes Annually to Address Canada’s Housing Crisis

Amid Canada’s ongoing housing crisis, Liberal Leader Mark Carney has announced plans to build approximately 500,000 new homes per year and establish a new housing agency called Build Canada Homes. This agency will serve as a developer overseeing the construction of affordable homes across the country if Carney’s government returns to power. CF-18 jets intercept plane violating restricted air space above G7 site in Alberta

Canadian fighter jets were deployed to intercept a private, civilian plane that violated restricted airspace above Kananaskis, Alta., where G7 leaders are gathering for meetings. RCMP say in a news release that the fixed-wing Canadian aircraft entered the restricted area shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday, and NORAD’s Canadian region deployed CF-18 Hornet fighter jets to intercept it. The release says that after multiple steps were taken to gain the pilot’s attention, "final warning measures" were used to contact the pilot and have them safely land under their own power. Const. Mark Carney to meet Donald Trump today at G7 summit in Alberta amid 'sensitive' talks

Prime Minister Mark Carney will meet this morning with U.S. President Donald Trump at the G7 summit in Alberta. It's Trump's first visit to Canada since he started repeatedly saying the country should become an American state, leading Canadians to boo the American anthem at hockey games. Trump stormed out of the last G7 summit that Canada hosted, in 2018, and many will be watching this morning's meeting, scheduled for 9 a.m. local time in Kananaskis, Alta. The meeting comes weeks into regular calls and text messages between Carney and Trump as they try to resolve an economic spat caused by Tr

Alberta premier defends charging most Albertans for COVID-19 vaccines

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says her government's new policy forcing many Albertans to pay out of pocket for a COVID-19 vaccination is about focusing on those who need it the most. Smith says $135 million got ``flushed down the drain'' last year from doses wasted in part because of low vaccine uptake. Her government will still pay for some, including for those who have compromised immune systems or are on social programs, to get shots. Smith says she thinks low vaccination rates for COVID-19 in Alberta last year are because the vaccine ``doesn't work particularly well.''
