Texas Governor Greg Abbott says he was ``misled'' about the police response to the shooting at the elementary school in Uvalde, and he's ``livid.'' In his earlier statements, the governor told a news conference, he was repeating what he had been told, and the information was inaccurate. Abbott said the response needs to be ``thoroughly, exhaustively'' investigated. 21 people were killed Tuesday when an 18-year-old gunman barricaded himself in a fourth-grade classroom at Robb Elementary School in the southwestern Texas town.

Suspicious object found along a road in Kelowna confirmed to be an explosive
RCMP say a suspicious object found along a West Kelowna road has been confirmed to be an explosive. The Mounties say they received a report of a suspicious object on the shoulder of Bartley Road yesterday morning and called their Explosives Disposal Unit. They say the experts confirmed it was an explosive device and destroyed it. An investigation is ongoing.

The BC government says it will contribute $2.4 billion to improve transit and infrastructure in Metro Vancouver. Vancouver police say woman arrested after allegedly abducting two children
Police say a woman has been arrested in connection with the abduction of two children in Vancouver. Const. Tania Visintin says the woman took the seven- and nine-year-old sisters from their mother's home last night, but they are now safe. She said earlier the woman was known to the family but there was no indication that either child had been harmed or was in imminent danger. Investigators believed there was no concern for the safety of any other children in the Strathcona neighbourhood.

Judge denies bail for protester charged in southern Alberta border blockade
A judge has denied bail for a man charged with conspiracy to commit murder at a border blockade in southern Alberta.
Chris Carbert, who is 45, appeared by video in Court of Queen's Bench in Lethbridge today to hear the decision after a bail hearing last Friday.
Reasons for Justice Johnna Kubik's ruling are protected by a publication ban.
Carbert and three other men are accused of conspiring to kill police officers at a blockade near Coutts, Alta., in protest of COVID-19 vaccine mandates and other pandemic restrictions.

Vijay Singla sent to 14-day judicial custody by Mohali court
Mohali court on Friday sent former AAP leader and Punjab Health Minister Vijay Singla to 14-day judicial custody.
Singla's lawyer HS Dhanoa said, "There will be a trial court for this and we will apply for bail soon after discussing it with the panel."

The Rouse Avenue Court sentenced former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala to four years imprisonment in a disproportionate assets case filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The Court ordered to confiscate four properties of him and also imposed a fine of Rs 50 lakh.

Argentina reports case of monkeypox; man traveled from Spain
Argentina reported Latin America's first confirmed case of the monkeypox virus on Friday in a man who recently traveled to Spain.
The man, who is from the province of Buenos Aires, has monkeypox but health authorities are waiting to finish sequencing the virus before making the official announcement, said an official in Argentina’s Health Ministry. The official requested anonymity until the official announcement.
It is the first time the presence of the virus has been confirmed in Latin America.
