Differences between the United States and Iran over the terms of a recently announced ceasefire continue to raise uncertainty, with officials indicating there is no clear agreement on key conditions.
Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Dr. Mohammad Faisal, said in London that he remains “optimistic” about a potential meeting between the two sides in Islamabad later this week. According to his remarks, efforts are underway to turn the current two-week ceasefire into a more durable arrangement.
Faisal said that despite reported violations, the ceasefire is largely holding. He also stated that Lebanon is included in the scope of the understanding. U.S. officials, however, have denied that Lebanon is part of any such agreement, highlighting a significant gap in positions between the parties.
He acknowledged that major differences remain and it is not yet confirmed whether delegations from both countries will engage in direct talks on Saturday. Pakistan has called on all sides to exercise restraint to allow diplomatic efforts to proceed.
Pakistan officials say they hope that, despite the gaps in positions, a meeting in Islamabad could help identify common ground toward a longer-term resolution.
