Canada has marked a bleak COVID-19 milestone.
The second wave of the pandemic has pushed the total case count past 200,000.
This comes as tougher restrictions take effect in regions facing a surge in infections.
Canada saw its first confirmed case in late January and marked 100,000 cases in mid-June, about five months later.
Health experts say it's crucial to remember Canada is in the midst of the second wave and these kinds of milestones serve as a reminder of the need for continued vigilance.
Today, Quebec is reporting 1,038 new cases of COVID-19 and six more deaths attributed to the novel coronavirus.
There are 704 new cases of COVID-19 in Ontario today, and four new deaths due to the virus.
Alberta reported 356 new COVID-19 cases and four deaths. Over the past three days the province added a total of 898 cases.
Over the past three days British Columbia added a total of 499 new cases.
Kids should not participate in traditional Halloween activities: Dr. David Williams
Ontario's chief medical officer of health says kids should not participate in traditional Halloween activities in the province's COVID-19 hot spots.
Dr. David Williams says that he is recommending against sending children out trick-or-treating in Ottawa, Toronto, Peel Region, and York Region.
He says given the high rates of transmission in the areas people should consider virtual alternatives.
Dr. Williams says it also critical that families not travel outside of their neighbourhoods to celebrate Halloween.
