A 31-year-old man has been charged following a Surrey Police Service investigation into a November 2025 shooting that injured a woman inside a Surrey residence.
Police said frontline officers responded to reports of shots fired at a home near 121 Street and 101B Avenue at about 9:10 p.m. on Nov. 23, 2025. According to Surrey Police Service, a female resident suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh and officers provided emergency medical aid until BC Emergency Health Services arrived.
The SPS Major Crime Section led the investigation. Police said investigators identified a suspect and associated vehicles, which were later seized. According to police, a firearm recovered through a search warrant was determined to have been used in the shooting.
On May 13, 2026, officers arrested an identified suspect in Vancouver near Ontario Street and West 33rd Avenue with assistance from the Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team, the Integrated Police Dog Service and SPS Strike Force.
Ashnil Singh, 31, has been charged with six Criminal Code offences, including discharging a firearm into a place while reckless as to whether another person was present, possession of a firearm for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm while prohibited, and possession of a firearm with an altered or removed serial number. The allegations have not been proven in court.
Singh remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on May 15, 2026. Police have not released additional information about a possible motive or whether investigators believe the shooting was targeted.
