Two men charged in the killing of former Air India bombing suspect Ripudaman Singh Malik have pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in a British Columbia court. The courthouse in New Westminster, B.C., confirmed the pleas from Tanner Fox and Jose Lopez in the 2022 shooting of Malik, who was acquitted in 2005 over the 1985 bombings that killed 331 people. Fox and Lopez, who were originally charged with first-degree murder, will next appear in court on Oct. 31.

The Alberta government has announced 250 units of interim housing for Jasper, Alta., residents displaced by a wildfire this summer. Community and Social Services Minister Jason Nixon says the housing will cost the province $112 million, and the units will be rented at or near market rates. Police say a woman has been found dead after her home was swept away by a mudslide triggered by torrential rain across British Columbia’s south coast. RCMP in Coquitlam, B.C., east of Vancouver, say emergency crews had been searching for the 57-year-old since the slide occurred on Saturday. They say she was found the following evening by firefighters and members of Canada Task Force 1, a specialized search and rescue team based in Vancouver. The Mounties say officers responded to the slide near Pinecone Burke Provincial Park midday on Saturday, and found one home had been “swept away.”

A man has been arrested after a stabbing at a Calgary light-rail station that police say injured a transit peace officer. The Calgary Police Service says it's believed two peace officers approached an unknown man who was seen drinking alcohol in a bus shelter near the Chinook CTrain Station on Friday night. Police allege the man became combative and produced a knife, and after a brief struggle, one of the peace officers was stabbed in the arm.
