ED has arrested former cabinet minister of Punjab Bharat Bhushan Ashu
Senior Congress leader and former minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu from Punjab's Ludhiana has been arrested by the ED team in the multi-crore transport tender scam in the Food and Civil Supplies Department.
According to information, ED had summoned former minister Ashu to the office in Jalandhar for questioning. They were interrogated for about 8 hours. When Bharat Bhushan Ashu was the Minister of the Ministry of Food and Civil Supplies, he was accused of fraud in the transport tender of Rs 2,000 crore.

Farmers blew effigies of BJP in Punjab and Haryana
Farmers in Punjab and Haryana today protested at several places under the leadership of Non-Political United Kisan Morcha and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha regarding legal guarantee of minimum support price for crops and other farmers' demands.
Farmers protested against the BJP at several places including Amritsar, Moga, Kurukshetra, Ambala, Sonepat and Panchkula along the Shambhu Front between Punjab Haryana and burnt effigies.
The farmers said that the agitation will continue till their demands are met.

Preparation to send Ravneet Bittu to Rajya Sabha from Haryana
Former MP Ravneet Bittu from Punjab's Ludhiana may be sent by BJP to Rajya Sabha via Haryana. Bittu is currently Assistant Minister in the Department of Railways and Food Processing at the Centre.

Hearing on the petition challenging the detention of Amritpal Singh on August 28
The Punjab-Haryana High Court has sought a response from the Punjab government and the Center in the case of extension of NSA on Waris Punjab organization chief Amritpal Singh.
Amritpal, lodged in Dibrugarh jail, had recently challenged the NSA on him, which was heard in the court today.
The court has fixed the date of August 28 for the next hearing of the case. Meanwhile, the challenge to Amritpal's parliamentary membership by Vikarjit Singh, who was an independent candidate from Khadur Sahib, will be heard in the Punjab-Haryana High Court on August 5.
