Carney's Liberals will form a minority government
In Canada, the Liberal Party, led by Mark Carney, is forming a minority government with 169 seats, just three seats short of a majority. The Conservatives, meanwhile, will be the main opposition with 144 seats. Hockey players' sexual assault trial shown security, phone videos
The sexual assault trial of five former members of Canada's world junior hockey team watched security footage today from a bar and the hotel where the players were staying the night of the alleged incident.
Court has also seen cellphone videos taken by one of the accused players and another member of the team over the course of the night.
Michael McLeod, Carter Hart, Alex Formenton, Dillon Dube and Callan Foote have all pleaded not guilty to sexual assault.
McLeod has also pleaded not guilty to an additional charge of being a party to the offence of sexual assault.

Green co-leader Pedneault resigns
In Canada, Jonathan Pednault, the co-president of the Green Party at the federal level, has resigned from the party leadership. Pednault had to face a defeat in the Outremont riding of Montreal, finishing fourth, against the Liberal Party's Rachel Bendayan. He said in a statement on social media that I have failed twice to convince the people of my constituency to send me to Ottawa, so I am resigning immediately.

Psychiatrist had concerns during fitness test for Calgary man accused of killing stranger
Court has heard that a psychiatrist who deemed a Calgary man fit to stand trial for a fatal attack on a woman had concerns the accused suffered from an underlying psychotic illness.
Michael Adenyi is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 30-year-old fitness instructor Vanessa Ladouceur in the city's downtown in March 2022.
The 29-year-old has testified he believed he was attacking a creature when he assaulted the woman and his lawyers are arguing he is not criminally responsible by reason of a medical disorder.

Calgary police investigating separate discoveries of human remains
Calgary police are investigating two separate discoveries of human remains in the past week. Unidentified human remains were discovered last Thursday by a pedestrian walking on a path in southwest Calgary.
Police were also called on Monday night after a pedestrian found potential remains on the side of the Bow River in the city's northwest.
They say the first individual has been identified as a 25-year-old man and his body was likely there for some time, while the other person hasn't been identified.

Liberals outperform Bloc in Quebec
In Quebec, Liberals have defeated Bloc Quebecois by 10 seats. Before these elections, Bloc Quebecois had 33 seats in the House of Commons, which has now come down to 23.
However, Bloc leader Yves-François Blanchet easily won the riding of Beloit-Chambly. He defeated his rival Liberal candidate by nearly 10,000 votes.

Elections Canada says more than 19.2M voters cast a ballot in federal election
Elections Canada says more than 67 per cent of eligible voters cast a ballot in the federal election more than 19.2 million people.
While this election was widely expected to see increased turnout, it did not surpass the record set in March 1958, when 79.4 per cent of eligible electors voted.
But turnout was higher than in the last federal election, when 62.6 per cent of eligible voters headed to the polls.
