Vancouver-area taxi driver caught impaired, handed a 90-day driving prohibition
A Vancouver-area driver is facing a 90-day driving ban and his cab has been impounded for 30 days for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The BC Highway Patrol says the operation was launched on April 29 after an officer spotted a taxi driver leaving a Richmond liquor store without a passenger at around 8 a.m. Corporal Michael McLaughlin said in a statement Monday that when the officer stopped the yellow Toyota Prius on Alexandra Road and administered an alcohol-screening breath test to the driver, he failed the test twice.

NDP national council scheduled to meet Monday night to pick interim leader
The NDP national council is scheduled to meet tonight to pick an interim leader.
Jagmeet Singh announced on election night that he would step down as soon as an interim leader was chosen.
The NDP was reduced to just seven seats in the election on April 28 and no longer holds official party status.
Two party officials say the NDP caucus met twice last week to discuss who will lead the party until a leadership race can be completed.
Singh is among more than a dozen NDP MPs who were defeated in one of the worst election showings the party has had.

Trump says 'highly unlikely' U.S. ever uses military force to annex Canada
U.S. President Donald Trump says it is "highly unlikely" the United States would ever use military force to annex Canada.
In a wide-ranging interview on NBC's "Meet The Press" which aired Sunday, Trump says he wouldn't rule it out against Greenland, but says he doesn't see it happening with Canada.
The remarks come as Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to have his first face-to-face meeting with Trump this week in Washington.
Trump also downplayed the United States' reliance on Canadian imports, telling NBC his country doesn't need anything of Canada's.

Hockey players' sexual assault trial hears from former world junior teammates
The sexual assault trial of five former members of Canada's world junior hockey team is hearing today from other players who were on the 2018 team.
Taylor Raddysh, who now plays in the NHL for the Washington Capitals, was asked what he remembers about several days in June 2018 when many of the team's members were in London, Ont., for a handful of events marking their victory in that year's championship.

Canada's new Carney government is going to put limits on visas for temporary workers and international students.
The prime minister said during a series of announcements in Ottawa on Friday that the total number of temporary workers and international students will be limited to less than 5 per cent of Canada's population by 2027 to reduce the burden on housing, public infrastructure and social services. Prime Minister Mark Carney will enter Parliament with his fellow members later this month. The House of Commons is due to resume sitting on May 26, the first day of the 45th Parliament. Police charge accused attackers and victims in Calgary vigilante case
Police in Calgary have charged seven people in what they're calling a case of vigilante justice. They say it began when officers arrested three men and a youth who had allegedly lured a man through an online dating app to a remote location.
Police say the man was assaulted with a baseball bat and a replica gun, and his vehicle was vandalized. They say officers recovered video of the assaults from cellphones and further investigation revealed two similar attacks.
The accused face charges including aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.
