RCMP say three men arrested in B.C. have ties to Mexican drug cartels
RCMP federal investigators have arrested three men in British Columbia they believe are connected to a transnational organized crime group connected to Mexican drug cartels bringing cocaine into Canada.
They say officers also seized 23 firearms, several thousand rounds of ammunition and "multi-kilos of illicit drugs" from a home in Surrey, B.C.
They say that on Sept. 23, police executed a search warrant at the home, which was surrounded by compound fencing, steel gates, and razor wire.

Calgary gas prices dip to lowest in more than 8 months
Looks like it might be a good time for Calgarians to fuel up.The price of gas in the city has dropped to an average of 137.1 cents/litre with prices below 134 cents/litre at several stations across the city, according to GasBuddy.com.
The current average price is down more than two cents from last week, and down from more than 148 cents/litre a month ago.
It’s the lowest average price at the pumps Calgary has seen since February of this year. Gas prices in the city peaked in mid-July when the average price was over 160 centre/litre.

Giani Harpreet Singh's Z-security withdrawn
The union government has withdrawn the Z-category security provided to Giani Harpreet Singh. He, however, would continue to have the security cover provided to him by the Punjab police and the SGPC.

Former B.C. premier John Horgan dies aged 65
Ambassador to Germany and former British Columbia premier John Horgan has died at the age of 65, after his third bout with cancer.
Horgan served as B.C.'s New Democrat premier for five years before stepping down in 2022, then was appointed ambassador last year.
But in June, Horgan announced he was on leave after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer.

Rain, wind warnings issued along B.C. south coast
Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning along northern sections of east Vancouver Island, with downpours expected to begin this evening as a "vigorous Pacific frontal system" moves over the coast.
It says steady rain will begin in the afternoon, intensifying in the evening and is expected to continue into Wednesday.
Total rainfall near 50 millimetres are expected in that region, and the weather office is cautioning drivers about potential washouts, flash floods and water pooling on roads.

Highway 1 in Burnaby closed after early morning crash sends five to hospital
Mounties in Burnaby say westbound lanes of Highway 1 near the city have been shut after a multi-vehicle crash.
They say just before 3 a.m., officers responded to reports of a five-car collision on the highway, just east of the Kensington Avenue off-ramp.
Police say five people were transported to hospital, three with minor injuries and two in serious condition, and the road was immediately closed.
They say it is expected to be shut down for the rest of the morning and potentially into the afternoon.
RCMP are advising commuters to take an alternate route and are asking people to work from home

Postal union issues 72 hour strike notice to Canada Post
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers has given a 72-hour strike notice to Canada Post.The notice is for both the union's urban and rural bargaining units.
In a release(opens in a new tab) early Tuesday morning, the union says workers will be in a legal strike position as of Friday if negotiated settlements have not been reached.
However, the union says its national executive board has yet to decide if a job action will happen at the deadline, saying that will depend on Canada Post's actions at the bargaining table in the coming days.
