Punjabi singer Jasbir Jassi has strongly reacted to the decision to appoint rapper and singer Honey Singh as the brand ambassador for Punjab’s anti-drug awareness campaign. The controversy erupted after Honey Singh recently met senior BJP leader Tarun Chugh to discuss the growing drug menace in Punjab.
Without directly naming anyone responsible, Jassi took an indirect dig at Honey Singh, saying that people who once glamorised drug culture among the youth cannot now be projected as the saviours of Punjab. He suggested that such decisions hurt the sentiments of Punjabis and questioned the thinking behind the move.
In a video shared on social media, Jassi said that individuals living in cities like Delhi and Mumbai often fail to understand the true culture and emotions of Punjab. He added that one celebrity face alone cannot represent the spirit of the state.

The singer also mentioned that he usually stays away from political debates because of their complicated nature, but decided to speak this time because the matter directly concerns Punjab and its younger generation.
Recalling his previous interactions with BJP leader Tarun Chugh, Jassi claimed that several personalities being promoted politically or socially are not accepted by the people of Punjab. He further stated that Punjab’s identity is deeply rooted in Sikhi and Gurbani, which remain part of the cultural fabric of Punjabis across all communities, including Hindus, Sikhs, and others.

“Do not mistake our silence for weakness,” Jassi said, adding that he would continue to raise his voice whenever Punjab’s interests are involved, regardless of any personal consequences.
