The Haryana State Commission for Women has directed police to take action against Bollywood singer and rapper Badshah after he failed to appear before the commission in connection with a complaint over his song “Tattiri.”
According to the commission, Badshah had been asked to appear for a hearing in Panipat on Friday regarding objections raised about the lyrics of the song. However, he did not attend the hearing. His legal representatives told the panel that the artist was unable to appear due to prior commitments and requested additional time.
Commission chairperson Renu Bhatia warned earlier in the day that strict action could follow if the singer did not appear by 3 p.m. When lawyers again requested more time after the deadline, the chairperson instructed police authorities in Panchkula and Panipat to initiate steps to secure his appearance.
According to the commission’s directions, local police were asked to take action to ensure Badshah appears before the panel and to take measures including the possible seizure of his passport so he cannot leave the country during the proceedings.
The commission said the case relates to concerns raised about content in the song that some complainants allege is disrespectful toward women. Bhatia said the panel is prepared to take strict measures to protect the dignity of women if required.
