Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived on Friday in Kyiv, where he will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, lawmaker Oleksii Honcharenko said on Telegram.
Officials in India and Ukraine say the visit will focus on boosting economic ties and cooperation in defense, science and technology.
Modi's visit comes a month and a half after he traveled to Moscow for talks with President Vladimir Putin.

Attackers ambush and kill 11 police officers in eastern Pakistan, officials say
Attackers armed with guns and rocket-propelled grenades ambushed a police convoy in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province Thursday, killing at least 11 officers and wounding others, police and officials said.
The attack happened in the Rahim Yar Khan district when the police officers were passing through a deserted area as part of an operation targeting robbers in the region, Punjabi police said in a statement.
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in militants attacks in recent years, but such a high number of police casualties in a single attack is rare.

The Israeli military says it has recovered the bodies of six hostages taken in Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack that started the Gaza war.

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy says Kyiv troops have full control of the Russian town of Sudzha
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Thursday that Kyiv troops have full control of the Russian town of Sudzha in the Kursk region in their incursion into Russian territory.
The town, the largest that Ukraine has reportedly seized so far, had a prewar population of around 5,000 people. Natural gas flows from West Siberian gas fields through pipes that pass through Sudzha and cross the Ukrainian border into Ukraine’s system.
Zelenskyy said a Ukrainian military commander’s office is being set up in Sudzha. He didn’t elaborate on the details or the functions of the office.

Police in London say a man is arrested after a child and adult were stabbed in a busy square
London’s Metropolitan Police say a man has been arrested after an 11-year-old and a 34-year-old were stabbed in central London.
The attack occurred in Leicester Square, which is heavily visited by tourists at this time of year.

A plane able to carry dozens of passengers crashed in Brazil's Sao Paulo state on Friday, local media reported, but it was not immediately clear how many people were aboard.

There are no tsunami threats in British Columbia after a powerful earthquake struck off Japan’s southern coast, according to the U.S. based National Tsunami Warning Center.
The Japan Meteorological Agency says Thursday's quake registered magnitude 7.1 and was centered in waters off the eastern coast of Japan’s southern main island of Kyushu at a depth of about 30 kilometres.
