The Election Commissioner had allowed the state government to consider the parole application of the Dera chief on Monday itself
Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini on Tuesday approved the 20-day parole application of Dera Sirsa chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, who is serving a jail term on charges of rape and murder.
The Election Commissioner had allowed the state government to consider the parole application of the Dera chief on Monday itself. In fact, Haryana has assembly elections on October 5, so it was necessary for the state government to get approval from the Election Commission.
It is to be noted that Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim was convicted of rape and murder in 2017 and sentenced to 20 years in prison by the court. Since then, this is the 11th time that the government has released him on parole or furlough.
