PM Carney to Travel to New York for 81st UN General Assembly

Prime Minister Mark Carney will travel to New York today to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. He is scheduled to remain there until September 23 and participate in several high-level meetings and bilateral discussions with world leaders.

Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand will also join Canada’s delegation and participate in high-level UNGA events. The UN General Debate is scheduled to begin on September 22.

Carney is also expected to co-host an event with France and the U.K. supporting a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict. His visit comes as world leaders gather in New York amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.

The UNGA gathering could also provide an opportunity for Carney and U.S. President Donald Trump to be at the same event following the breakdown of Canada-U.S. trade talks. However, Canadian officials have not confirmed any formal meeting between the two leaders.
