Canada’s Parliament Resumes Fall Session After Summer Break

Canada’s Parliament has resumed its fall sitting after the summer break, with Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberal government preparing to introduce key economic legislation aimed at strengthening the country’s economy.

The session is expected to see heated debate amid ongoing trade tensions with the United States following the breakdown of trade talks in August. The government is also set to introduce bills such as the Building Canada Strong Act, aimed at speeding up the approval process for major projects and encouraging businesses and investors to invest in Canada.

Under the proposed legislation, the government plans to establish a “one project, one review” approach, with a target timeline of one year for project reviews.

Possible changes to the Canada Labour Code are also expected to be a major issue. Federal NDP Leader Avi Lewis has already said his party will oppose any attempt to weaken workers’ constitutional right to strike.
