Navdeep Bains leads Ontario Liberal leadership race in fundraising

Former federal Industry Minister Navdeep Singh Bains has emerged as the top fundraiser in the Ontario Liberal Party leadership race, according to the latest financial disclosure reports from Elections Ontario.

The filings show Bains' campaign has raised approximately $350,000 in donations, placing him ahead of Etobicoke–Lakeshore MPP Lee Fairclough, whose campaign has reported raising about $258,200.

According to Elections Ontario, the fundraising advantage positions Bains as one of the leading contenders in the race to succeed the party's current leadership. Fundraising totals are widely viewed as an indicator of organizational strength and supporter engagement during leadership campaigns.

Bains served as a federal member of Parliament for 13 years and held several cabinet portfolios, including Industry Minister, before leaving federal politics in 2021. After working in the private sector, he entered the Ontario Liberal leadership race in May 2026.

The Ontario Liberal Party currently holds third-party status at Queen's Park and is scheduled to elect its next leader on Nov. 21. The new leader will be tasked with rebuilding the party and preparing it for the next provincial election.
