Liberal MP from Quebec Greg Fergus has been elected as the new Speaker of the House of Commons.
The Speaker's seat fell vacant after Anthony Rota resigned last week, after which the election for the post of Speaker started in the House of Commons.
Seven candidates were in the fray.
In fact, Bloc Québécois MP Louis Plamondon was playing the role of interim speaker.
Green MP Elizabeth May from BC, Liberal MP from Quebec Peter Schiefke, Liberal MP from Quebec Alexandra Mendes, Ontario NDP MP Carol Hughes, Liberal MP from Quebec Greg Fergus, Conservative MP from Nova Scotia Chris d'Entremont, Sean Casey, the Liberal MP from PEI competed for the same.
