The City of Vancouver says it will use a downloadable smartphone app to provide safety alerts to local residents, visitors and communities in case of local emergencies. The city says in a statement that Alertable is a municipal-level public alert system that will enable timely distribution of information. It says the app complements the city's existing methods for notifying the public of emergencies, including social media, advisories sent to local news media, updates to the city website and door knocking. Flood warnings, evacuations remain in place in British Columbia

Several rivers in B-C remain under flood warnings and hundreds of homes evacuated as the province cleans up from heavy rainfall. There are 12 evacuation orders involving 350 homes in the Fraser Valley, and more than 1,600 are on alert. Armel Castellan, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, says the floods on the heels of summer's extreme heat is in line with expected trends. He says weather stations in Nanaimo, Victoria, Abbotsford and at Vancouver's airport have broken precipitation records for the fall season.

Metro Vancouver Transit Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect who allegedly attacked and sexually assaulted a woman inside a SkyTrain station. Early Saturday morning on November 27th, 2021, shortly after 12:00 a.m., a woman was walking down the stairs to the platform of 29th Ave SkyTrain Station when she was approached by an individual who asked for the time. As the suspect approached the woman, they allegedly blocked her path multiple times and tried to engage in conversation. They eventually wrapped their arms around her, groped her and forced her to the ground.
