Punjabi film actor Jagjeet Sandhu spoke exclusively to Connect Cine in Surrey about the challenges facing the much-anticipated film Punjab 95, which stars Diljit Dosanjh, Arjun Rampal, and others.
Sandhu described the project as one that deeply resonates with its cast and crew. He revealed that Dosanjh and the team were disheartened when the film’s release was postponed. “We are confident the film will definitely release without a single cut, which is exactly what Diljit Bhaji and the whole team want,” Sandhu said.
The actor expressed disappointment that support for the film has been muted, particularly among Punjabi audiences and religious groups in Punjab. “At the very least, people could have supported the film by sharing a post on social media,” he remarked.
The film’s delay is widely believed to be linked to its sensitive political themes, with censorship concerns playing a role in its stalled release. Sandhu’s comments reflect broader debates in Indian and Punjabi cinema about freedom of expression and the pressure faced by filmmakers tackling historical and political subjects.
For Surrey’s Punjabi diaspora, the controversy carries weight. Films like Punjab 95 not only revisit critical chapters of history but also spark discussions about representation, identity, and the limits of artistic freedom.
Sandhu, who was also promoting his Punjabi film Ilti, said he remains hopeful: “Punjab 95 will find its rightful place with audiences once it finally releases.”
