Supreme Court Calls Out Comedians Over Insensitive Jokes About Disabilities

In a decisive hearing the Supreme Court took a firm stance against derogatory humor directed at individuals with disabilities, specifically targeting comedians Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia. The court condemned their insensitive remarks and mandated that they issue public apologies. The judges instructed that a video apology be shared on their social media platforms, emphasizing that jokes at the expense of disabled people are entirely unacceptable.

The court also recalled a previous incident involving Samay Raina, who had made a disrespectful comment about his parents’ personal lives during a YouTube show, which had also escalated to the Women’s Commission and eventually reached the Supreme Court. He had issued an apology at that time as well.

Additionally, the Supreme Court criticized the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, urging it to establish explicit guidelines regarding such content.
