Canada's men's national soccer team will take on Qatar in its second FIFA World Cup 2026 group-stage match on Thursday, with both teams searching for their first-ever World Cup victory.
The match will be played at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver. Canada earned its first point of the tournament with a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 12.
All four teams in Group B – Canada, Qatar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Switzerland – are tied on one point after drawing their opening matches, leaving the group wide open heading into the second round of fixtures.
Canada could also receive a boost with the possible return of captain Alphonso Davies, who has been sidelined with a hamstring injury. His availability for the match has drawn significant attention as Canada looks to secure a crucial result.
To advance to the knockout stage, Canada must finish among the top two teams in Group B or qualify as one of the tournament's eight best third-place teams.
Canada previously defeated Qatar 2-0 in an international friendly played in Austria in September 2022. That remains Canada's only victory against the current Group B opponents.
