Newfoundland construction worker Jacob Lewis wins $1-million 'Canada's Got Talent' prize
Jacob Lewis, an offshore oil and gas construction worker from Butlerville, NL, is the $1-million winner of this season's ``Canada's Got Talent.'' He captivated both the judges and the audience with his rendition of ``The Best'' by Tina Turner during the two-hour finale on Citytv Tuesday.
A press release says Lewis had long dreamed of becoming a full-time singer but put his ambitions on pause five years ago when his twin boys were born prematurely with complications. Judge Shania Twain supported Lewis after hearing his audition during which he sang Bon Jovi's ``Bed of Roses."

Transit bus driver in hospital after attack in Calgary By Matthew Scace
A Calgary transit bus driver is being treated for injuries in hospital after he was attacked on the job. Police say two people assaulted the driver while he was operating a bus in the city's northeast.
He was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition and later upgraded to stable. Officers have not located any suspects, and investigators are canvassing the area.
Concerns over transit safety and low ridership last year prompted the city to begin spending $15 million for new transit peace officers.

Pakistan may pay Rs 14 crore compensation to terrorist Masood Azhar
Pakistan's Shahbaz government may pay Rs 14 crore as compensation to the head of the terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed and designated a terrorist by the US, Masood Azhar, for the death of 14 of his family members killed in recent Indian air strikes.

The death toll from consuming poisonous liquor in Majitha constituency of Amritsar, Punjab has risen to 25, while 10 people are fighting for their lives in the hospital. These deaths have taken place in seven villages of Majitha. So far, 15 to 16 people have been arrested in this case.
