British Columbia's top doctor says COVID-19 restrictions that were set to expire Friday have been extended to Feb. 5. Dr. Bonnie Henry announced the extension while reporting eight more deaths and 761 new cases of COVID-19, saying the spike is partly related to changes in how the province is reporting cases each day. Plane that went into B.C.'s Fraser River hit power lines before crash: TSB

A Transportation Safety Board report says a small plane that vanished in British Columbia's Fraser River last June hit a power line before sinking into the river. The Cessna 172M left Boundary Bay Airport on June 6 with two men aboard, an instructor and his student. The report says the plane was flying in Abbotsford, B.C., along the river at a low altitude and was just 38 metres above the water when it clipped a power line. A body has been found in a small community in southeastern British Columbia and RCMP are trying to determine if it is linked to a recent double homicide in the same area. A woman walking in Nanaimo says money began falling from the sky after a car raced by her as she strolled in the city's north end. Nanaimo RCMP say the woman, who isn't being identified, noticed the floating cash as the vehicle disappeared down the street, so she gathered up the bills and called police. Victim of a random machete attack in Vancouver credits his hat for saving life

The victim of a random machete attack in downtown Vancouver on New Year's Eve says he credits his hat for helping save his life. William Johnson says he was hit over the head with a machete outside the Blenz coffee shop near Granville and Nelson streets at about 7 p-m. Johnson says he believes his hat helped save his life as he only required four stitches. A 33 year old man has been charged with two counts of assault with a weapon.The man has also been charged with two counts of assault causing bodily harm, robbery, and possession of a dangerous weapon in connection with the incidents.

Calgary man, B.C. woman killed after stopping at side of highway in B.C.

The RCMP say a Calgary man and B.C. woman have been attacked and killed after stopping on the side of a highway just west of Creston, B.C. Police say the victims were found at around 7 p.m. Wednesday just a few kilometres outside Creston at a pullout on Highway 3 in southeast B.C. Stolen skid-steer recovered in Mission

Overnight on September 1-2, a Kubota skid-steer loader valued at over $150,000 was stolen from a construction site near Hope. The owner of the machine notified police, and investigators learned that the skid-steer had been transported to a rural property in Mission.
