Jalandhar by-election: 51.30 percent voting
Voting for the by-election in Jalandhar West Vidhan Sabha seat of Punjab was completed today. 51.30 percent voting took place till 5 pm. The result will come on July 13.
A three-way competition is being considered for this seat. In which former AAP MLA Sheetal Angural from BJP, Mahinder Bhagat son of former minister of BJP from AAP and former senior deputy mayor Surinder Kaur from Congress are in the election field.
BJP wins this seat in 2012, Congress in 2017 and Aam Aadmi Party in 2022.

Residents of Merritt, B.C., told to conserve water as city well has 'major failure'
There has been a "major failure" in a well in Merritt, B.C., prompting the city to ask its residents to stop all non-essential water use.
The city says in a statement that the failure is in the Voght well and affects the city's water distribution system.
The statement says residents need to conserve water by all means possible so it can maintain its fire protection services.
No lawn watering is permitted until a pump is repaired.
It says the city's water remains potable and asks that residents be patient while repairs are underway.

Daily heat records tumble in B.C., temperatures in southern Interior to remain high
More daily temperature records have fallen in British Columbia, with temperatures forecast to remain in the high 30s for the rest of the week in much of the southern Interior.
A summary from Environment Canada shows 27 daily high temperature records fell across the province Monday, from Whistler, to Trail in the southeast, Smithers in the northwest, and Campbell River on Vancouver Island.
The Lytton, B.C., area was a hot spot with a daily high of 42.4 C, breaking the old record of 39.4 set in 1952.

Satyendra Jain did not get relief from court, interim bail application rejected
Former Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain received a major blow from the Rouse Avenue District Court on Tuesday. The court has rejected Jain's bail plea.
Satyendra Jain had sought bail in a money laundering case related to the Enforcement Directorate. Satyendra Jain said that he should be granted bail on the basis of ill health.

Three bodies recovered from B.C. park where mountaineers went missing: RCMP
Mounties in Squamish, B.C., say three bodies have been recovered from the area of Garibaldi Provincial Park where three mountaineers went missing last month.
In a statement released by the RCMP, BJ Chute, manager of Squamish Search and Rescue, says the team worked with police to carry out the recovery operation in the Atwell Peak area Monday morning.
RCMP did not release the names of those who died, saying their families have requested privacy.
The three mountaineers were last seen on May 31 in terrain that local authorities had described as complex and remote.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today handed over a check of Rs 1 crore to the family of Shubkaran Singh, who was killed during the farmers' agitation on the Khanuri border of Punjab-Haryana.
