Prime Minister Mark Carney's Liberal caucus is meeting in Edmonton this week ahead of the fall sitting of Parliament. It's the first time the caucus has met since June, and the first caucus retreat held outside Ottawa since Carney took over the party's leadership last March. It comes as Carney has a lofty fall agenda to move on his major projects legislation that was passed in a hurry in June. Carney has been promising for weeks to unveil his short list of initial projects he wants to fast track using the bill, and has hinted in recent days about big announcements coming on ports and housing.

He said that the next of kin of the deceased will be given Rs 2 lakh each and the injured Rs 50,000 each. After conducting an aerial survey of the flood-hit areas of Punjab, PM Modi reached Gurdaspur, where he met flood victims and farmers. The president of the B.C. General Employees’ Union is set to make an announcement this morning laying out the next phase of the union's public service strike. The union says Paul Finch is scheduled to speak at a picket line in Surrey on the fifth consecutive day of picketing following the launch of job action last Tuesday. The union represents more than 34,000 members working for B.C.'s public service and has held picket lines at locations including government sites in Victoria, Surrey, and Prince George, and the Royal BC Museum.
