Amid growing speculation within the Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), state president Sunil Jakhar is said to have communicated with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, urging a change in the party’s approach toward Punjab’s political and emotional concerns.

Sources suggest Jakhar has stressed that issues deeply connected to Punjabi identity and sentiment must be addressed on a priority basis, calling for greater sensitivity from both the state and central leadership.

According to reports, Jakhar has also expressed his intention to step down as Punjab BJP chief, citing that the next state president should have full decision-making authority to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence.

Party insiders say Jakhar’s recommendations were overlooked during the recent elections, and he was not consulted in discussions over the ministerial nominee from Punjab, deepening his discontent with the leadership.

Jakhar, a former Congress leader who joined the BJP in 2022, has played a key role in repositioning the party in Punjab’s post-Akali political landscape. His apparent sidelining reflects internal tensions as the BJP seeks to rebuild its base in the state.
