Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has rejected the resignation of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh and appealed to him to continue his religious services as before.

Dhami said that the Jathedar’s leadership and spiritual guidance were invaluable to the Sikh community and that the SGPC hoped he would reconsider his decision in the larger interest of the Panth.

Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) working president Balwinder Singh Bhunder, along with Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema and other senior party leaders, met Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh and offered an apology on behalf of the party for the recent incident that led to tensions within Sikh leadership circles.

It may be recalled that Giani Harpreet Singh resigned yesterday from his post as Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, alleging serious misconduct and interference by SAD leader Virsa Singh Valtoha. The controversy has reignited discussions within Sikh religious and political institutions about maintaining transparency and sanctity in Gurdwara affairs.

Observers say the SGPC’s move to retain Giani Harpreet Singh reflects efforts to restore unity and stability among Sikh leadership, particularly at a time when religious institutions are under growing public scrutiny.

Saskatchewan Premier Supports Alberta’s Use of Notwithstanding Clause to End Teacher Strike

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe says he supports Alberta Premier Danielle Smith’s decision to invoke the notwithstanding clause to bring an end to the province’s ongoing teachers’ strike. He added that provincial governments have a responsibility to use “every tool available” to protect the interests of citizens, including the education of children. The Alberta government invoked the clause this w

Trump says Carney apologized over Ontario’s anti-tariff ad; trade talks remain off the table

U.S. President Donald Trump says Prime Minister Mark Carney has apologized for an Ontario government advertisement criticizing U.S. tariffs, a controversy that led Washington to suspend trade negotiations with Canada earlier this month. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said Carney offered an apology over what he called a “fraudulent” anti-tariff commercial. “He was very nice. He apologized for what they did with the commercial,” Trump said. However, when asked if trade talks with Canada would resume, the president replied, “No.” The Ontario government, led by Premi
