Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Highway 93 between Jasper and the Saskatchewan River Crossing, warning travellers to prepare for difficult and potentially hazardous conditions along the Icefields Parkway.
The federal weather agency says several rounds of heavy snow are expected through Wednesday evening, with total accumulations reaching up to 50 centimetres in some areas. Rapidly changing conditions could significantly reduce visibility and make driving unpredictable along the mountain route.
Environment Canada notes that snowfall intensity will vary, increasing the risk of travel disruptions. Motorists are advised that road closures are possible, particularly in higher elevations where snow is forecast to be heaviest.
In addition to the snowfall warning, wind warnings remain in effect for parts of southeastern Alberta. However, forecasters say wind gusts in that region are expected to ease later this morning.
Officials continue to urge drivers to check highway conditions before travelling and to adjust plans if weather conditions worsen, especially in mountainous and remote areas.
