B.C. Premier David Eby has sharply criticized the ongoing political turmoil within the opposition B.C. Conservative Party, calling it a “centre of chaos” while ruling out the possibility of an early provincial election.
Eby’s comments came after four B.C. Conservative MLAs recently resigned from the party amid growing tensions and dissatisfaction with the leadership.
Taking aim at Conservative Leader Karin Kirkpatrick, Eby described the B.C. Conservatives as a far-right party and questioned how British Columbians could place their trust in a party when its own MLAs are unable to stand behind its leadership.
Eby said the recent resignations and internal divisions highlight the instability within the opposition party and raise questions about its ability to provide effective leadership in the province.
Despite the turmoil within the B.C. Conservatives, Eby made it clear that his government has no plans to call an early election.
The premier said his government’s priority is not political maneuvering but protecting British Columbians from the economic impact of tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Eby said his government is focused on supporting B.C. businesses, forestry workers and families as the province continues to deal with uncertainty surrounding Canada-U.S. trade relations.
He emphasized that the government intends to concentrate on the economic challenges facing British Columbia rather than taking advantage of the opposition’s internal political problems.
