Burnaby RCMP is providing the following monthly arrest update for September, 2021 in relation to ongoing Trans Mountain pipeline demonstrations in Burnaby.
Burnaby RCMP officers have responded to several calls for service in September related to an existing Injunction Order preventing Trans Mountain work and access from being impeded or obstructed.
In September, five people were arrested for Criminal Contempt of Court in relation to the injunction.
In addition, one other person was arrested on September 24, 2021 in relation to a safety incident that injured a worker. The incident remains under investigation.
Since January 1, 2021 there have been eight arrests in total for Criminal Contempt of Court related to the Injunction Order.
Burnaby RCMP would like to remind the public and those who are involved in ongoing demonstrations that police are an impartial party and are there to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
By law, Burnaby RCMP has an obligation to enforce the court’s Injunction Order.
Demonstrators have a right to lawful, peaceful and safe protest and companies have a right to complete their work. Burnaby RCMP is working hard to ensure that these rights are protected and that all parties and the public are kept safe.
