Today marks the first day of British Columbia’s provincewide COVID-19 immunizations, the most comprehensive vaccine program to ever be delivered in B.C. (B.C. Government)

Today marks the first day of British Columbia’s provincewide COVID-19 immunizations, the most comprehensive vaccine program to ever be delivered in B.C.

Over the coming days, approximately 4,000 health-care workers in British Columbia will be rolling up their sleeves to receive the first approved COVID-19 vaccine.

Nisha Yunus, a 64-year old residential care aid was one of the first people in British Columbia to receive the COVID-19 immunization. Yunus has worked in the same long-term care home in the Vancouver Coastal Health region for 41 years, all in the same unit and on the same floor.

The first person in the Fraser Health region to be vaccinated was Linda Latour, a health-care assistant. Yunus and Latour provide personal care and support to seniors and this vaccine will ensure the people they care for will be a little safer today.

"I am so grateful. It feels like a dream came true. It is both a privilege and an honour to receive the first COVID-19 vaccine in British Columbia," Yunus said. "I have seen first-hand what COVID-19 does to families, and I am hopeful we are getting closer to finally reaching the end of this pandemic, so people can reunite safely with their loved ones and put this behind us."

Missing 3-year-old girl found in Montreal

A search has been launched for a missing 3-year-old girl in Montreal. The girl is reportedly alive and talking. She had been missing since Sunday. The Quebec Provincial Police held a press conference to update the search for the girl. Sergeant Eloise Cosset said it was not possible to provide any further information about the circumstances under which the girl was found and what had happened over the past day and a half. He said another press conference would be held later to provide more information on the case. He also thanked the community for their support in helping to find the girl.

4 deaths due to Corona in India in the last 24 hours

In India, 4 deaths have been reported due to Corona in the last 24 hours, two in Maharashtra and 1 each in Delhi and Kerala. According to the Health Department, 113 people have died due to Corona since January 2025. The highest number of deaths have occurred in Kerala and Maharashtra. A total of 13 deaths have also occurred in Delhi. There are 6,483 active cases of Corona in 32 states and union territories of the country. So far 42 patients of Corona have been found in Punjab.

Police investigating found body

Port Alberni RCMP is investigating following the discovery of a deceased person in a local park on Monday. On June 16, 2025, at 5:41 p.m., Port Alberni RCMP received the report of a body in Dry Creek Park. Frontline officers responded and located a deceased person with apparent injuries.
